Lockdown artwork

Here are a few of my recent pencil drawings, during the recent lockdown period I spent quite some time enjoying the basic medium of graphite pencils. I think drawing is the fundamental skill all artists need whatever the medium you work in, time spent with pencil and paper is never wasted, also it is great enjoyment.

Blog

Welcome to my first of my new blog posts. Today I’ll be adding a new watercolour painting that I produced during the recent lock down period. The reference image I used was a photograph by friend Raymond Bessant who is a talented independent wildlife photographer and film maker based on the beautiful island archipelago of Orkney. The painting is of a magnificent sunset at Stenness Loch at low tide. We visited this magical place in May 2019 and fell in love with the magically atmospheric and wild landscape along with the amazing history of this ancient area. For the painting I used a limited palette of just five colours from the SAA range of Artists quality pigments which were :-
Rose Madder (508) Transparent Orange (513) Cobalt Blue (104) Paynes Grey(Blue Shade) (703)

SAA WATERCOLOUR BRUSHES
IMITATION SABLE (BIG FLAT) No.38, No.12 Round, No. 6 Rigger.
GOLD SERIES No.10 Round, No.2 Rigger, No.0 Round.
SILVER SERIES Liner Writer Size 02

PAPER
BOCKINGFORD
540gsm NOT Half Imperial size 22” x 15” (56cm x 38cm)

Mechanical pencil

It is also handy to have kitchen paper at hand to mop up any excess water or pigment.
